Most common call we get:
The one you legally need

Selling your house? You need a COC.

An Electrical Certificate of Compliance is a legal requirement when a property changes hands in South Africa, and it has to be issued by a registered person. No COC, no transfer.

We inspect the whole installation, give you a written list of anything that fails, quote you to fix it, and issue the certificate once it passes. Valid for two years.

How it works

What we check

Distribution board, breakers and labelling
Earth leakage operation and trip times
Earthing and bonding throughout
Plug points, polarity and wiring condition
Geyser, stove and fixed appliance connections
Outbuildings, pool pumps and gate motors
How a callout works

Four steps, no mystery.

The order matters — you know the price before we start the work.

STEP 01

You call

Tell us what's happening. We'll often narrow it down over the phone before we drive out.

STEP 02

We diagnose

We come out, find the actual fault, and explain what's wrong in plain language.

STEP 03

You approve

You get a fixed price before any repair starts. If you'd rather leave it, that's fine.

STEP 04

We fix it

Repaired, tested, and cleaned up. Certificate issued where the job calls for one.

Services

Domestic electrical work, done properly.

From a dead plug point to a full rewire — here's what we handle, and roughly what it costs.

Fault finding & repairs

Tripping breakers, earth leakage that won't stay in, dead circuits, flickering lights. We test methodically and find the real cause rather than swapping parts and hoping.

Certificates of Compliance

Full inspection, written fault list, fixed quote for repairs, and the certificate issued once it passes. Required by law when you sell.

DB board upgrades

Old fuse boards replaced with modern DBs — proper breakers, earth leakage, and every circuit labelled so the next person isn't guessing.

Plugs, lights & points

Extra plug points, new light fittings, downlighters, outside and security lighting, LED conversions, and dimmer installations.

Geysers & fixed appliances

Element and thermostat replacement, geyser isolators, stove and oven connections, and timer installations to cut running costs.

Surge & lightning protection

Surge arrestors at the DB to protect everything downstream. Cheaper than replacing a TV, fridge and gate motor after one storm.

Rewiring

Partial or full rewires for older homes where the wiring has perished, been extended badly, or simply can't carry a modern load.

Gate motors & outbuildings

Power runs to cottages, garages, and workshops. Gate motor and intercom supply, correctly protected and certified.

Emergency callouts

Burning smell, sparking, or total power loss. Call us — we'll tell you what to switch off immediately and get out as fast as we can.

Compliance certificates

Your COC, without the runaround.

What it is, why you need one, what it costs, and how quickly we can get it done.

What is a COC?

An Electrical Certificate of Compliance confirms that the electrical installation at a property meets the national wiring standard. It can only be issued by a registered person after a physical inspection and test.

You need a valid one when you sell a property, and most conveyancing attorneys won't proceed with transfer without it. A COC is valid for two years, provided no work has been done since.

Insurers also ask for it after an electrical fire or claim. If yours has lapsed, it's worth sorting before you need it.

Common questions

COC questions we get asked.

Two years from the date of issue, as long as no electrical work has been done since. If someone has altered the installation, a new certificate is needed.

The seller. It's the seller's legal responsibility to hand over a valid COC at transfer, including the cost of any repairs needed to pass.

Very few homes pass with nothing at all. You'll get a written list and a fixed quote — you can have us fix it, or get someone else to. We only issue the certificate once the installation actually complies.

No, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to. An unverified certificate is worthless, illegal to issue, and leaves you exposed if there's ever a fire or a claim.

Not strictly required by law for a rental, but most insurers expect a valid certificate, and it protects you as the landlord if a tenant has an incident.
